Havel’s place in Košice

Wednesday, June 6th 2018. Developer of Residence at City Hall in Košice, the construction we are currently finalizing, officially revealed Havel’s place in Košice.

Havel’s place is symbolizing open a free conversation and democratic values. The memorial place consists of two metal garden chairs placed around a round table from which a linden tree grows. Linden tree is a Czech national tree. Memorial place in Košice is the 25th monument built around the world and the 1st one to be located in Slovakia. Author of the idea is architect and designer Bořek Šípka, who was encouraged to create the monument by Czech Ambassador Peter Gandalovič. The very first monument was installed in the grounds of Georgetown University in Washington D.C in 2013. Other monuments are located in Lisbon, Barcelona, Karlové Vary or Prague.
